Emerging Leaders:

Building Nonprofit Leadership

Nonprofits Should Invest in Leadership Training

Our 2025 Emerging Leaders program is a great way to prepare early- and mid-career nonprofit professionals for a broader role in their organization. It's also great for established business leaders who want to make the switch to a satisfying nonprofit career.

The program will begin May 16 and meet one day a month for six months, covering a variety of topics. Learn more and register here Early Bird rates available until March 31!

Benefits of the class include:

Enhance Skills For Up-and-Coming Leaders: Our training program is tailored specifically to the challenges and opportunities in the nonprofit sector. By investing in this training, you'll develop crucial leadership skills, such as self-awareness, leadership, board governance, fundraising, communications, and more, that are instrumental in managing and growing a successful nonprofit organization.

Expand Your Network: As a participant, you'll join a diverse and passionate group of like-minded individuals from various nonprofit organizations. This experience offers you a platform to forge valuable connections, share insights, and collaborate with other leaders to amplify your impact.

Boost Your Organization's Impact: With your newfound leadership skills, you'll be better equipped to develop innovative solutions and navigate complex situations. As a result, your organization will become more efficient and effective in achieving its mission, ultimately making a more significant difference in the causes and clients you serve.

Attract Funding and Support: A well-trained, confident leader is more likely to attract donors and partners to support your organization's mission. By investing in your growth as a leader, you're also investing in your nonprofit's long-term sustainability and success.

CNPE's Emerging Leaders program covers all aspects of nonprofit leadership

Effective nonprofit leadership requires both leadership competency (soft skills) as well as competency in technical areas (financial, governance, fundraising, staff/volunteers). Is one more important than the other? How do we balance training and development so that both skill sets are developed?

Competencies we’ll explore include:

  • Self-Awareness (DISC Leadership Assessment)
  • Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (Foundations, Bias)
  • Board Governance (Roles and Responsibilities)
  • Fund Raising (Resource Planning and Development)
  • Financial Management (Risk Management, Asset Management)
  • Communications (Social media, Storytelling)

In addition to the program sessions, a DISC leadership self-assessment and debrief will help participants develop insight into their personal and leadership styles.

Each year, classes generally meet once a month from spring to fall. The first and last sessions are full days (9:00 am-4:00 pm) and the rest of the sessions are half days (9:00 am-noon). All sessions are in person.

Our commitment to accessibility

We understand that funding may be a concern, which is why we're dedicated to making our leadership training accessible to all. We have a variety of scholarships and payment plans to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder your growth as a leader.
